Musical writer Lin-Manuel Miranda, fresh off his success from his previous Broadway show, In the Heights, conceptualized Hamilton for a couple of years before it debuted in the Richard Rodgers Theatre in 2015. It was in this first run that he also acted the title role. The whole production, including its amazing cast and incredible score received extremely positive feedback from both critics and the audiences alike.
The Musical, as you might know, is a historical tale based off one of the Nations Founding Fathers, but Hamilton takes a new and modern approach, as seen in the music genres chosen and more so in its diverse casting. Plus, the 70th Tony Awards, where Hamilton took home 11 out of 16 nominations, is a display of its success. the show’s initial cast consisted of the actors, Philippa Soo, Leslie Odom Jr., and Jonathan Groff. Individually, the cast was already filled with both notable nominees and awardees, but their diverse and rich performances collected together brought the Musical to a whole new level. The production team, just as equally talented, earned Tony Awards for the show. Thomas Kail for Best Direction, Andy Blankenbuehler for Best Choreography, Alex Lacamoire for Best Orchestrations, Howell Binkley for Best Lighting Design of a Musical, Paul Tazewell for Best Costume Design of a Musical, and of course the man himself Lin-Manuel Miranda for Best Original Score and Best Book of a Musical, all topped the 2016 Tony Awards. Above all and unsurprisingly, Hamilton also took home Best Musical for the year. The touring cast and production crew in each new location where Hamilton is performed brings the same passion and enthusiasm in their performances, with favorable reviews maintained consistently.
Hamilton’s unceasing rise to fame led to opening many doors all over the world for the fans to experience the Musical. It has continued for the past ten years to perform not just in America, but also on London’s West End and in various theaters across Asia. Hamilton’s limited season will be heading to New York throughout October (and on Saturday 11th October 2025) at Richard Rodgers Theatre, performing at one more world-class stage with the best facilities and sound engineering that could surpass even Broadway and West End theaters.
