Based on the 2004 biography Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow. The show covers Hamilton’s life as an American Founding Father and his participation in the American Revolution and the political and economic history of early America. And finally Hamilton's tragic end by Vice President Aaron Burr in a duel.

After debuting in 2015, Hamilton went on to take home 8 Drama Desk Awards, 11 Tony Awards from 18 nominations, and the Pulitzer Prize in 2016.

Miranda and the cast of Hamilton aim to tell the tale of "America then, as told by America now." To do so, the production casts ethnic minority actors as the American Founding Fathers and other big roles.
